Iowa/NIU Game Recap and a Runner’s Request For Motivation

I survived the first weekend of college football. Barely, but I survived.

For those of you who don’t know, I’m an avid Iowa Football fan. I grew up on the program (4th generation Hawkeye), graduated from the University of Iowa and have a love for my Hawkeyes deeper than most people do for their significant other. Maybe not quite, but you get the picture.

I traveled to Chicago with a bunch of friends for the Iowa/Northern Illinois season opener at Soldier Field (where the Bears play). I’ll sum up the awesomeness of last weekend through a few pictures:

Iowa Fans…we kind of travel well for away games.

Reunion with old college friends. So good to see everyone!

We had great seats. It rained in Chicago on Saturday but we were under the overhang!

Good times with great company.

And of course we pulled off the win.

After Chicago, I made my way up to Lauderdale Lakes where my family has a place on the lake. I enjoyed the boat, swimming and summer for the final weekend of the season. Here’s a taste of Heaven on Earth:

And of course, got in some quality time with my cousins. Jackie’s eyes look freaky.

Onto my running update (which is what the point of my blog is):

Not much to talk about. Horrible, I know. I have the St. Louis half marathon in 5 1/2 weeks and have been running MAYBE three times a week. I have yet to do a long weekend run, let alone even pass 5 miles. Needless to say, I’m starting to freak out. Thank god my summer starts winding down this week so I’ll have more time to dedicate to running. Any motivation you runners can offer a sista? It’d be much appreciated.

  1. Motivation? Psssshhh, stop making excuses and start tacking on some extra distance those runs. You are in fine shape, 5.5 weeks is more than enough time!

  2. It’s hard to balance the training and all the fun! I think you’ll be just fine for your 1/2 in 5 weeks! Motivation? How about the lovely weather we’re supposed to get this weekend?!

    • Very true…you can’t ask for better weather. I think I’m just nervous because I’ve always been way more prepared and have given myself a lot more training time. I should be OK, I just reeaaaally want to go sub 2 hrs!

  3. Looks like you had a great weekend! As for running, having a schedule of how much I have to run each day until the race keeps me on track. I like crossing off each workout and knowing what I have to do each day. Whatever you do, good luck!
