Homecoming: A Wonderful Way to Feel Like You’re in College Again + the Realization That YOU’RE OLD

I’m going to start off by saying I’ve been a horrible blogger lately. Just horrible. Life is consuming me.

First off: Ladies, click this link right now. It will be the cutest thing you see all day. Gents, you should probably click it too.

Second: I have to even out a cute link with a hilarious one. I saw this last night and tears were streaming down my face from laughing so hard. I think I’m amused because it reminds me of myself as a kid. I seriously did this. I put the blame 100% on my sister because she never wanted to play with me.

Third: My recap of Homecoming weekend in Iowa through pictures. (For those of you who don’t know, I’m a University of Iowa grad).

I don’t think I ever fail to smile at the point of my drive. I love going back to Iowa.

Only about half of our college crew was able to make it back for Homecoming, but this 5 still managed to do a great deal of damage in IC.

Being typical females. Snappin’ pics left and right. I never turn down a great photo-op.

Sign #216849 that I’m growing up: the bar I used to work at in college is no longer. RIP Vitos. You done me good.

Kinnick Stadium: the best thing in Iowa City.

Oh hey, what do you know…Iowa won. Floyd is finally back in the hands of the rightful owners. (Iowa: 31, Minnesota: 13)

Sunday afternoon, there was a “Celebrity Basketball Game” where former Iowa athletes played in a basketball game at Carver. One of our friends was playing, so we went to watch. My friend Kristin and I had to get up in front of the crowd and play this embarrassing game. Never again.

My last shot before leaving town. I love this place.

2 things Homecoming Taught Me:

  1. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: one of my children will go to the University of Iowa. If they don’t, I’ll disown all of them.
  2. I am growing up. And getting old. The bars are nothing like they used to be. Or else I just have higher standards now. But they are disgusting…there was a cockroach on the bathroom floor at Summit. It’s always fun to go back, but it’s definitely a different environment from when I was in college.

Running update: Welp, I took a week off running. After the most stressful work week to date, events every day after work, and Iowa Homecoming last weekend, I just didn’t have the time or energy to run. But I’m back at it this week. I even woke up at 5:30 yesterday to get 5 miles in before work! I love those days. I set my alarm to do it again this morning. Did it happen? Nope.

I have two and a half weeks until the St. Louis Half. I’m still going for a sub-2 hour half, but if I won’t be surprised if I don’t do it. I haven’t been nearly as dedicated to my training as I should. Oh well… we’ll see how Oct 21st goes.

This weekend I’m off to Minneapolis to visit friends and watch the Twin Cities Marathon. My best friend’s boyfriend is running and I plan on taking my SLR to snap some sweet shots. I’m so excited for this weekend, which has made this week possibly the longest week ever.

I leave you with a beat I’ve been playing on repeat. Enjoy.

  1. Oh, I didn’t know you went to Iowa…what a surprise. Do you sense any sarcasm here?

As for running…sure you slept in this morning, thankfully there is time after work!

P.S. YouTube video is incredible…especially the part where she pulls the shirt down over her shoulder. I don’t know if she has any talent but she definitely has some soul.

    • Hey Dom, did you know I went to the University of Iowa? Well, I did just in case you didn’t know. Muaha. That is my favorite part of the video. I totally did that as a kid too…that was “cool” back then?

  2. Blog when you can and feel like it! It’s your blog, do what you want. Have fun at your 1/2!

  3. What the……#22 is already married!! What a dirtbag!

  4. I spent one New Year’s Eve at Vito’s! Iowa holds a special place in my heart as two of my good college friends are from Iowa and my best friend from high school went to Iowa State.
Hope you’re having fun in Minneapolis! It’s crazy that there are three major Midwest marathons this weekend.
