In Her Shoes

Tackling my bucket list, one half marathon at a time.

Must.Blog.

I’m a disgrace. I haven’t blogged since May. But in my defense, my last post was the greatest post ever and I wanted that to be the most recent post forever and ever. If you didn’t read it, go back and please do so.

I will not bore you with excuses of why I haven’t written. I’ll just leave it at this:

Lake living

Besides lake living, I’ve been (attempting to) plan a wedding! I know we still have a year until the Big Day, but I get anxious when I think of all there is to be done. Because I like lists and they make me feel more accomplished, here we go:

Finished

  • Date (8/15/15)
  • Venue (Pleasant View Golf Course)
  • Photographer
  • Day-of Planner
  • Wedding dress!
  • Wedding party
  • Honeymoon (St. Lucia!!!!)

Big To-Dos

  • Videographer
  • DJ
  • Hotels for guests
  • Shuttles
  • Food!

Let me just say, if you live in the Madison area, I really, really welcome your suggestions for anything on the to-dos list. Especially a videographer.

I won’t bore you with wedding details so I’ll move onto another thing keeping me occupied: running.

I have my 2nd half of 2014 next weekend: the Madison Mini. I feel like a wimp compared to last year (6 half marathons, 1 full marathon). I hate that my priorities have changed, but I just didn’t find the time to travel for halves this year. I’d like to say maybe 2015?? However, 2015 will be the Year of Weddings amongst my friends and I. Oh well, I’m still getting the miles in, just not in official races.

*Break from writing*

I just started thinking, “I am rambling on about things people probably don’t care about. What did I used to post about?”

Well, running. So I went back and looked at my post about my marathon last November. After reading it, I have a minor inkling to sign up for the Madison Marathon in November. I said minor, people. Minor. We’ll see how I feel after the half next Saturday. And if I’m really crazy enough to sign up.

What a random blog post. See you again in another 3 months.

The Greatest Game Ever Played

No, I’m not talking about the golf movie with Shia LaBeouf, however that is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m talking about the “round” of golf I played last Saturday. I put quotes around “round” because I only played 5 holes. Why? Because my BF put a ring on it as I was putting out on the 5th hole.

Back it up.

It all started when I was just 14 little years of age. I was in art class. It was the first day of second semester of my freshman year in high school. I spotted this gorgeous guy across the room who had swimmer hair (you know, that bleached disheveled look) with his black hoodie up. He kept putting his head down on the table, clearly not wanting to be there. Yeah, I immediately developed a huge crush on that guy. I later found out his name was Bennet, he was a junior and was the brother of a girl in my grade (Emily) who I’d already known through mutual friends. Well over time, I obsessively told Emily “how hot” her brother was. And I guess over time Emily and I bonded over it because we became best friends and still are to this day.

My crush on Bennet remained for the majority of the year. He didn’t have a clue who I was until I creepily took a picture of him in the middle of a swim meet. As I took the picture, the flash on the camera went off, which apparently is a no-no in swimming? Stupid. Anyway, I stopped the entire race. The swimmers had already dove into the water but the official stopped everyone, came over to the stands and yelled at the woman in front of me (I’m sorry!) for taking a picture and then made the swimmers get back on the blocks to start over. Talk about mortifying. Yes, Bennet found out it was me.

So overtime, I got over my crush and started dating someone else. Let me pause by saying guys are so dumb. Because this is when Bennet started to like me. Nice timing, Buddy. Throughout high school I dated other guys, Bennet went off to college and we remained friends because I was always over at their house hanging out with Emily. Bennet continued his little crush, never hiding his feelings along the way. Long story short, the timing was always off for us. We never liked each other at the same time and were always dating other people.

Bennet and I circa 2006. We look so young!

Bennet and I circa 2006. We look so young!

Fast forward 11 years.

Bennet and I are both single. His persistence pays off and I finally give into him. We start casually dating. Things get serious. We lightly talk about our wedding some day and how awesome it would be to have it on the 5th hole of the Woods course at Pleasant View Golf Course.

Present time (5/3/14 to be exact)

Bennet and I are golfing the Woods course at PV. We get to the 5th hole and I have a 40 foot putt, which I ALMOST sink. After I’ve regained composure from my Tiger Woods putt, I tell Bennet to throw me the ball but he forces me to come tap it in. I walk up to the hole and I see a little box in the cup. Everything becomes a little blurry but this is where he drops to a knee and pops the q.

The Greatest Game Ever Played

So there you have it, folks.  I can’t believe how excited I am to marry this guy. It’s been a long-time coming and an entertaining journey. He’s the greatest guy I know with the biggest heart and the best humor. He makes me happier than I ever could have imagined and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him.

The End.

Three Awesome Things

I have 3 awesome things to share.

First, this. It’s a great read about women’s confidence in the workplace. I hold a managerial role at my office and I am lucky enough to have wonderful support from my 4 principals, 3 of which are men. One of my male bosses sent this to me yesterday and I finally got a chance to read it. Moral: HAVE.CONFIDENCE. I’m learning that everyday.

In studies, men overestimate their abilities and performance, and women underestimate both. Their performances do not differ in quality.”

Second, this quote. Beautiful.

Just you wait

Third, a song from Coldplay’s album Ghost Stories, which is released on May 19th.

Healthy Habits to Live By

I haven’t posted in ages so I think my first post back should be short and sweet. I saw this on Pinterest the other day and I kind of love it. However, it can apply to both men and women. Enjoy. I’ll be back to post again some day.50 healthy habits

Photo cred goes to this person.

Oh and one more thing. My sister introduced me to Gregory Alan Isakov last week and I thought I’d share the wealth.

Adoption. It’s Like Your Birthday!

My cousin Vali and her husband Curtis have three amazing boys. This weekend, they made the adoption of their daughter official. I could not be more excited for the Nemetz family and can’t wait to meet this adorable Hazel Grace.

Curtis is an amazing videographer and put this together. Take a minute to watch a recap of this special day.

Social Media and Running

I belong to a group called Social Media Breakfast Madison (#smbmad). It’s where a bunch of awesome (and nerdy) social media people get together once a month and talk about…social media. Over the years it has grown A TON. When I started attending in 2010, there were only about 20 regular attendees. Now, each month there are about 200-250 attendees.

Anyway, our January speaker was supposed to be from Yumbutter, however, they got caught in Guatemala due to travel issues. SO, a few social media “experts” were asked to speak on a panel last minute, myself included. Yesterday morning I got to wake up, eat donuts, drink coffee, and sit in the front of the room talking about one of my favorite topics: social media. Here is a picture of our wonderful panel:

It was fun ‘ol stuff. I got to sit next to my sidekick Krista, talk AND learn about social media and people-watch for an hour. Muha, creepy. If you’re ever so inclined, here’s a quick overview of the event.

I talk a lot

Onto other things: running. Yes, I’m stilling doing it. But minimally. I get out when Krista (same one as above) texts me after work and asks me to go with her. But it’s getting increasingly hard to find motivation to get out and run in 10 degree weather. I don’t like selfies and I refuse to post pictures like this anywhere but on my blog, however, here is a picture I sent to my sister last night (thanks again for the gloves and neck gaiter!) before my run. This is how I have to dress EVERY TIME I go for a run lately. Not fun.

Running in a tundra

I seriously need to move south. Florida calls my name daily. But thankfully, I’m off to Arizona three weeks from yesterday for a 5-day vacation with the family.

Finally, here is your heartwarming story of the day. It’s a must-read, even if you don’t like the Seahawks.

A Picture A Day

Way back on January 1st (I say this because it’s been awhile since I blogged…again), I decided to attempt taking a picture a day throughout 2014.

I love pictures. I love looking at pictures; I love taking pictures. So I figure this is a great “resolution”. I also figure this will give me an excuse to blog once a week to share the past 7 pictures.

So here we go! However, forgive the lengthiness of this post; it’s the 14th of January and I have yet to post about this.

1/1/14: My boyfriend and I attempted a 7 day cleanse. Before we got started, we took a trip to the grocery store and our cart was full of greens!

1/2/14: Day 1 of the cleanse (we quit after completing day 2). For dinner, all we got was a smoothie…with just fruit. Not too bad actually!

1/3/14: Finally picked up the Christmas gift from my apartment's leasing office that my sister sent 2 weeks prior. Gloves for snowboarding!

1/4/14: Running date with my girls, Mel and Krista. Post run, we went to brunch then shopping. And all fell in love with these ridiculous hats.

1/5/14: Iowa/Wisconsin basketball game! Yes, this is the game Fran went nuts. And the game that almost gave me a heart attack.

1/6/14: Today was absolutely frigid. I think it got down to -15. Anyway, I got in my car and had to scrape the INSIDE windshield!

1/7/14: I was laying in bed at about 11:30 this night and realized: I haven't taken a picture yet today! I looked around my room and this is the best I could find. A true, but cheesy, quote on a Lulu bag.

1/8/14: I was recently promoted at work to our Operations and Marketing Manger. My boss gave me 3 of these "stress balls" in case employees (or myself) need them to relax. I've used them quite a bit already.

1/13/14: Bennet and I made awesome Chicken Avacado Egg Rolls tonight and I took a screenshot of what I needed from the grocery store. Wish I had taken a picture of the final product!

1/14/14: Not going to lie, our regular coffee at work is pretty terrible. A coworker brought this deliciousness in and it upped my morning about 6 points.

So a lot of these pictures are quite boring, but I’ll get better at it! I need to remember to take pictures earlier in the day, it just gets hard with work. So there you have it. My first 14 pictures of 365! Hopefully.

I haven’t given you a beat to enjoy in a while, so I’ll give you a great one.
