In Her Shoes

Tackling my bucket list, one half marathon at a time.

Stranger in Need of Motivation

It’s been more than a year since the last time I blogged which means we’re pretty much strangers. I’m like that friend who pops in and out of your life when she needs something. Well, here I am, in need of something. At least I’m not afraid to admit this is a one-way street.

Running has been on the backburner for most of 2015. And I don’t like it so I want to do something about it. However, I’m picking the least optimal time of year to get back on the bandwagon since it’s dark when I get to work and dark by the time I leave. But I want to get back to my 2013 self that ran 8 half marathons and a full in one calendar year. Where is that person?!

So here is your stranger – desperate for motivation, encouragement, a kick in the butt, etc. That’s assuming my followers haven’t neglected me like I have them. Maybe I had a sliver of hope that blogging would give me a renewed burst of running energy…TBD. I’ll blog again soon with an update. Or will I?

To Run or Not To Run

I’m back to blog after another long hiatus. And I’m back to talk things out. I’ve recently had an itch to run another marathon. 4 months from now I’ll hate myself and I’ll hate running. But for now, I want to run. My wedding is next August so I keep thinking I should sign up for something to get myself motivated and in shape. What better time to run another marathon, right? Well, maybe. The problem? I’d be training in the dead of winter….a Wisconsin winter. There is nothing worse than that. The other problem? There are no marathons in the Madison area in the spring which means I’d have to travel. No, it’s not the end of the world but I sure do love sleeping in my own bed the night before a race.

My two options right now are the Oshkosh Marathon on April 19th or the Wisconsin Marathon in Kenosha on May 2nd. If anyone has other ideas, I’m all ears.

As I hem and haw over this idea, I keep asking myself, “why not just run another half.” Because I just want to do another marathon and I really don’t have a good reason why. We shall see. I have 2 months to decide.

Negative One Year

Look at me…posting again already! Maybe my blog itch has returned? I couldn’t help but blog because I have so many important things to share.

First of all, I bought a bike! I am so stoked. I took it out for my first ride last night and I’m in love. I am most excited to do something active other than running and this is a hobby that Bennet and I can do together (he runs too fast for me). I got the bike at the Trek store and let me just say, the guys there are saints. They know everything there is to know about bikes, which is exactly what I needed as I know nothing.

My Trek beauty

Second important thing: I’m running my 2nd half of 2014 tomorrow and I’m not a bit mentally prepared. It haven’t even thought about the fact that I’m running a race tomorrow but maybe that’s a good thing. I’m running the Madison Mini, which is ranked the #14 best half marathon by Runner’s World. In terms of time, I have zero expectations for this race. I have quite a few friends running it so I just want to go out and have a good time.

Now for the most important thing: Today is Bennet and I’s Negative One Year Anniversary! What is that, you ask? We have just one year until our wedding day! I say “just” loosely. 365 days is 365 too many because I am so incredibly excited to marry this guy.

I won’t be gushy, but I have one thing to share. Yesterday I saw this link on my Facebook feed: 21 Uncommon Romantic Gestures That Would Make Any Girl Melt.

As I started to read the article I thought, “I’m totally going to send this to Bennet as a hint.” But as I continued on I thought, “Well, at least he does that one…oh, he does that one too….Yep, there’s another.”

I finished the list and I realized how lucky I am. He’s actually amazing. Sometimes I forget all the little (and not so little) things Bennet does for me. Lately I have been stressed with wedding planning and let’s just say I can give him some ‘tude. I need to remember that the planning should be fun and in the grand scheme of things they won’t even matter. Because at the end of the day, I get to marry my best friend in the world and most definitely my better half.

365 days to go

Of course, as I’m typing this blog post, flowers are delivered to my office.

I’m a disgrace. I haven’t blogged since May. But in my defense, my last post was the greatest post ever and I wanted that to be the most recent post forever and ever. If you didn’t read it, go back and please do so.

I will not bore you with excuses of why I haven’t written. I’ll just leave it at this:

Lake living

Besides lake living, I’ve been (attempting to) plan a wedding! I know we still have a year until the Big Day, but I get anxious when I think of all there is to be done. Because I like lists and they make me feel more accomplished, here we go:

  • Date (8/15/15)
  • Venue (Pleasant View Golf Course)
  • Photographer
  • Day-of Planner
  • Wedding dress!
  • Wedding party
  • Honeymoon (St. Lucia!!!!)

Big To-Dos

  • Videographer
  • DJ
  • Hotels for guests
  • Shuttles
  • Food!

Let me just say, if you live in the Madison area, I really, really welcome your suggestions for anything on the to-dos list. Especially a videographer.

I won’t bore you with wedding details so I’ll move onto another thing keeping me occupied: running.

I have my 2nd half of 2014 next weekend: the Madison Mini. I feel like a wimp compared to last year (6 half marathons, 1 full marathon). I hate that my priorities have changed, but I just didn’t find the time to travel for halves this year. I’d like to say maybe 2015?? However, 2015 will be the Year of Weddings amongst my friends and I. Oh well, I’m still getting the miles in, just not in official races.

*Break from writing*

I just started thinking, “I am rambling on about things people probably don’t care about. What did I used to post about?”

Well, running. So I went back and looked at my post about my marathon last November. After reading it, I have a minor inkling to sign up for the Madison Marathon in November. I said minor, people. Minor. We’ll see how I feel after the half next Saturday. And if I’m really crazy enough to sign up.

What a random blog post. See you again in another 3 months.

Healthy Habits to Live By

I haven’t posted in ages so I think my first post back should be short and sweet. I saw this on Pinterest the other day and I kind of love it. However, it can apply to both men and women. Enjoy. I’ll be back to post again some day.50 healthy habits

Photo cred goes to this person.

Oh and one more thing. My sister introduced me to Gregory Alan Isakov last week and I thought I’d share the wealth.

Drowning in Weddings

I get a big ‘ol F in terms of blogging lately. Like usual, I’ve been so busy that I’m drowning and blogging is the last thing on my mind. I had a mental and emotional breakdown to my mom last week because I LITERALLY have no time to myself lately. And it’s getting incredibly draining. Luckily, things are starting to slow down and I’ll have more time for some R&R. (Hopefully).

So what have I been doing? Well, definitely not enough running. I’m starting to freak out about marathon training. I’ve been religious about my long runs on the weekend (except for one kick-back weekend) but I’ve really been lacking on my mid-week runs. I’m only getting 1 or 2 in (don’t yell at me Dom!) But it’s crunch time and I’m making myself get out for every single run. My new leaf turned this week.

But really…what have I been doing? Well, for starters…I’ve had a wedding every week since…I was pretty much born.

HS reunion at Christa's wedding

Bendo was lucky enough to meet my Iowa lovelies for the first time.

Bendo finally got to meet the people I talk about ALL the time.

Just a few of the best people in the world.

Rushed home the following morning after Cait's wedding for...IRONMAN! As always, this even tugs on my heart strings and makes me someday want to do it. But that will never, ever happen. I volunteered for the first time this year and will do it every year from now on!

Then this past weekend we had my cousin's wedding in Minneapolis. It was such a fun family reunion. Blaker (to my right) is the one that got hitched.

Family in the photo booth

Yeah...these are only the ladies in the family. And we're still missing a handful. People traveled from NY, Arizona, California, Oregon, North Dakota...and more...such a fun reunion.

I finally have a weekend to myself this week. I cannot wait to do nothing but my long run and hang with my niece. Speaking of my niece…I got the best video text in the world a few days ago:

Wednesday Goods

I’m sharing goods today.

1. It’s National Running Day! What does that mean? I got $20 off my Denver Rock ‘n’ Roll registration! It’s cool…still cost me $90. But NRD also means a mid-week run with my favorite running peeps. We’re hitting the UW Arboretum then hitting the brews to celebrate.

I also stumbled upon this awesome vid of the San Diego Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, which I ran in 2012. Ugh, gives me goosebumps.

2. Quote: My sister shared this with me a while back, and it’s about time I pass it on:

“You are so young. You stand before beginnings. I would like to beg of you, dear friend, as well as I can – to have patience with everything that remains unsolved in your heart.  Try to love the questions like locked rooms. Like books written in a foreign language.  Do not now look for the answers. They cannot be given to you…because you could not live with them. It is a question of experiencing everything…You need to live the question. Perhaps you will gradually, without even noticing it, find yourself experiencing the answer, some distant day.” -Rainer Maria Rilke

3. 38 Little Things That Make You Feel Great

4. I bought a bed yesterday. A real bed. Like with a headboard and footboard. I’m officially an adult. Isn’t it perdy? It’s funny the things that make me giddy these days.

5. 4th of July. Without a doubt the best holiday there is. If you know me, you know I’m obsessed with the 4th, obsessed with America clothing and even more obsessed with fireworks. Well we’re less than a month away from my Christmas. So yes, I AM already planning how to do my nails for the festivities. 4th of july nails

And lastly, a tune. I’m not a huge country fan but this is a JAM. And it’s on repeat.
