The Greatest Game Ever Played

No, I’m not talking about the golf movie with Shia LaBeouf, however that is one of my favorite movies of all time. I’m talking about the “round” of golf I played last Saturday. I put quotes around “round” because I only played 5 holes. Why? Because my BF put a ring on it as I was putting out on the 5th hole.

Back it up.

It all started when I was just 14 little years of age. I was in art class. It was the first day of second semester of my freshman year in high school. I spotted this gorgeous guy across the room who had swimmer hair (you know, that bleached disheveled look) with his black hoodie up. He kept putting his head down on the table, clearly not wanting to be there. Yeah, I immediately developed a huge crush on that guy. I later found out his name was Bennet, he was a junior and was the brother of a girl in my grade (Emily) who I’d already known through mutual friends. Well over time, I obsessively told Emily “how hot” her brother was. And I guess over time Emily and I bonded over it because we became best friends and still are to this day.

My crush on Bennet remained for the majority of the year. He didn’t have a clue who I was until I creepily took a picture of him in the middle of a swim meet. As I took the picture, the flash on the camera went off, which apparently is a no-no in swimming? Stupid. Anyway, I stopped the entire race. The swimmers had already dove into the water but the official stopped everyone, came over to the stands and yelled at the woman in front of me (I’m sorry!) for taking a picture and then made the swimmers get back on the blocks to start over. Talk about mortifying. Yes, Bennet found out it was me.

So overtime, I got over my crush and started dating someone else. Let me pause by saying guys are so dumb. Because this is when Bennet started to like me. Nice timing, Buddy. Throughout high school I dated other guys, Bennet went off to college and we remained friends because I was always over at their house hanging out with Emily. Bennet continued his little crush, never hiding his feelings along the way. Long story short, the timing was always off for us. We never liked each other at the same time and were always dating other people.

Fast forward 11 years.

Bennet and I are both single. His persistence pays off and I finally give into him. We start casually dating. Things get serious. We lightly talk about our wedding some day and how awesome it would be to have it on the 5th hole of the Woods course at Pleasant View Golf Course.

Present time (5/3/14 to be exact)

Bennet and I are golfing the Woods course at PV. We get to the 5th hole and I have a 40 foot putt, which I ALMOST sink. After I’ve regained composure from my Tiger Woods putt, I tell Bennet to throw me the ball but he forces me to come tap it in. I walk up to the hole and I see a little box in the cup. Everything becomes a little blurry but this is where he drops to a knee and pops the q.

The Greatest Game Ever Played

So there you have it, folks.  I can’t believe how excited I am to marry this guy. It’s been a long-time coming and an entertaining journey. He’s the greatest guy I know with the biggest heart and the best humor. He makes me happier than I ever could have imagined and I cannot wait to spend the rest of my life with him.

The End.
